Clement Price was the conscience, heart and soul of a broad, inclusive community centered in Newark. He was generous with his personal warmth, his knowledge and his time. He was a teacher and a scholar, but his understanding of race, of culture - of life in America - was enriched by close bonds he shared with people from different backgrounds, and from all walks of life. His perspective was broad, deep and penetrating, focused on finding the humanity in each of us. He could speak with passion and project moral purpose, but pomposity was never in evidence, his sense of humor reflecting both wit and grace.
